In 1994, we started a `Clinical Training Course in Classical Homoeopathy' in Bombay (India), designed specially for the European and the American homoeopaths/students. Some of the participants insisted that we start a similar programme in U.K. and the U.S.A., as well.

Now we have a proposed work-shop in U.K.. The details as under:

Contents and the theme:
In the midst of diverse approaches and methods of prescribing, Dr.Rajesh Shah is known for his `Down-to-Earth' and scientific teaching. He strongly feels that the participant at the seminar should be able to successfully treat the cases the same way as the teacher at the seminar is doing. If not, the seminar or a work-shop is hardly a learning place. It may rather be called a magic-show, when one can not reproduce what one witnesses.

The teaching will especially focus on skillful and efficient management of the acute, chronic, difficult as well as the routine cases.

Dr. Rajesh will share his wide knowledge of materia-medica, which includes lesser known aspects of common remedies as well as commonly used uncommon remedies in his practice. The vital issues encompassing the case-taking, construction of the totality, case-analysis, dynamics of repertorisation, the posology, case-management, the second and subsequent prescribing techniques.

The Seminar:
Dr.Rajesh Shah desires to communicate with the british homoeopaths his insight and certain concepts formulated in the course of thoughtful practice of classical homoeopthy.

Dr.Rajesh Shah at the work-shop
The scientificity of these concepts is confirmed by the consistent results in practice. It helped him to work out cases in practice with much efficiency, competence, confidence and honesty. He will bring to focus the true application of Hahnemann's concept of homoeopathy.

The Concept of Facets:
Our knowledge of Materia Medica should be based on `pure' drug- proving. We have to ascertain what the drugs are capable to produce in the drug provers.

A medicine possesses the property of producing a particular kind of alteration in the health peculiar to itself, but all the symptoms peculiar to a medicine do not appear in all the provers. Some symptoms occur in one prover, in another prover some other symptoms appear. In drug proving, a medicines produces the specific disturbance which is manifested by a group of symptoms or combination of symptoms (which he call `Facets'), which is characteristic of the remedy, perceptible to our senses, the study of which enables us to form guidelines to appreciate the totality of the remedy.

Dr.Rajesh has studied such groups of symptoms (Facets) which have characteristically occurred together in drug provers. He has been able to appreciate the importance and meaning of such symptoms, so as to apply them into the practice. From such a study `The concept of Facets' has emerged.

The study of any remedy becomes amazing when done by appreciating its facets. We have to learn to recognise the Facets of the patient as well as of the remedy. This fascinating concept widens the horizons and the applicability of our Materia Medica beyond the fixed images. It helps to recognise the remedy with more ease just like recognizing a known person from the way he talks or the way he rings the door-bell.

This concept has got in itself much more significance into practice then what could be described here.

The Phenomenological Approach:
Again, this is an original approach evolved in last few years. While studying the mind, The Phenomenological approach emphasizes on the study of `Phenomenon' occurring in various circumstances, the patient encounters and not just the study of mental symptoms, imaginary cores or images.

The Phenomenon exhibits in itself the essential structure, make- up of personality and the nature of the vitality of the individual. Hence, for the purpose of prescribing, this `Phenomenon' is to be perceived in patients, in order to find the remedy having capacity to produce similar phenomenon in its pathogenesis. What this `Phenomenon' is, could be better explained at length with numerous cases from practice.

This approach involves no theorizing on the part of the prescriber, about the genesis of symptoms. This novel approach could be immensely helpful to any logical minded homoeopath. It helps to apply rational concept of the phenomenon of totality, originally stated by Hahnemann.

Non-causal Materia Medica :
This concept is in relation with the above concepts and their application in the study of Materia Medica.

The idea is to understand symptomatic expressions as they are perceptible in patients and as proved in provers. It is needless to forcibly correlate a symptom with other symptom as `Cause and the effect'. This idea not only unburdens a prescriber from explaining the origin of symptom, but also keeps his conscience free from theorizing.

Q.P.E.: The value of underestimated :
Based on the Hahnemann's Organon and confirmation in practice the value of underestimated peripheral expressions requires to be highlighted. More details to be discussed with cases.

Drawing the lines: Centre to Circumference:
This practical correlation when applied into practice, helps the prescriber to be much more confident and it also explains how to rule out other apparently indicated remedies leaving no scope for confusion.

No room for speculation:
I like to talk down to earth. As Hahnemann has warned us, there should be no scope of speculation, theorizing & hypothesizing in the science of homoeopathy. Some of the current viewpoints propagated these days lead the young mind to unscientific theorizing and confusion. Many times theorizing done by homoeopaths today is in the form of understanding the symptoms based on imaginary core, uncertain past evolution of the patient, poetic imagination about delusions and dreams, etc. I like to talk about non-imaginary teachings.

Lesser known remedies :
The teaching includes the study of lesser known remedies as well as the study of lesser known aspects of well known remedies, with the application of the above concepts.

Cases and Repertory :
Every idea would be illustrated with several case histories on video, slides etc. Case-taking skills, therapeutics, etc. would be discussed with cases and plenty of repertorial references will be given all throughout the discussion.

The Post-graduate Clinical Work-shop:

The seminar will be followed by a two days Post-Graduate Clinical Work-shop will, for the practitioners. The ideas states as above as the content of the seminar, would be made more accessible and live when illustrated with more cases at the work-shop. Live cases from the participant's practice and other video + paper cases from the records of Dr.Rajesh Shah will be used to develop the practice based theme of the work-shop, which will truly a practice oriented experience.

It has been intended that the work-shop will be a beginning of the regular yearly Teaching-Clinics in future.

Accommodation and Food: The participants will have to make their own arrangement.

How to Enroll: Advance enrollment is a must. Enrollment may be made by e-mail or fax. Fees payable by bank- draft or international M.O. in favour of Dr.Rajesh Shah, and be sent to the Bombay address.

Feedback on Dr.Rajesh Shah's teachings:

" I have had the pleasure and privilege of Dr.Rajesh Shah's teaching at The School of Homeopathy. I was immediately impressed by his wholehearted dedication to the practice of Classical homoeopathy; also by his diligent thoroughness and the vigour with which he approaches all aspects of the subject. His insistence on inductive, logical reasoning is consistent feature of his teaching as also is the breadth and scope of his learning."
-Misha Norland
Director: The school of Homoeopathy, Devon, England

" My first impression about your seminar was of your generosity: you shared what you offered intellectually and of yourselves so kindly and joyfully. I experienced a genuine humanity in your approach which means more to me than that found in the teaching of other international teachers who don't seem to have that..."

" An excellent week-end...Refreshing and alive....Your clarity regarding sound prescribing based on presenting symptoms was received and just what I needed..."
Simon Taffler, London

"In the seminar, I also got a much clear understanding of the dynamics of reperterising although it made it very evident the need of going much deeper into the materia medica."
Beat Bolster, Nottingham, England

"Interesting and challenging seminar..Great variety in presentation..I now have a better and pragmatic grasp on Hahnemannian philosophy.."
Carmal Searton, London, England

Dr.Rajesh is doing a good job to propogate Classical homoeopathy which is more practicable and executable by most homoeopaths. His down to earth appoches are known to me and are certainly original and impressive.
