Dear Colleague,
Hello ! Welcome to Mumbai Branch of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (MBIAP). Well let me introduce ourselves. Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) is our parent body. It is the sole official body representing the pediatricians of India with more than 8000 members all over India. Under it are the statewise branches and under each state branch are various local city branches. Mumbai Branch is one such City Branch of IAP. We have more than 800 members on mailing list. Our programmes include CMEs, Workshops, Seminars, Group Discussions, Clinical Meetings, Annual Conference, Community Health Programme, Social Programme, etc.

3rd to 5th Oct., 1997 ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF MBIAP
The main conference will be held at the Tata Hospital Auditorium on 5th October 97 and will include Guest Lectures, Open Forum, State Round of PP Quiz and a grand Banquet.

Pre-Conference Workshops on 3rd and 4th Oct. 97 :
a) Intensive Pediatric Care
A state-of-the-art workshop at one of the most-advanced hospitals in the city namely, PD Hinduja National Hospital and Medical Research Centre. It will be organised by the Institution's Department of Pediatrics.

The programme will include lectures and discussions on various topics including nosocomial infections, management of various pediatric emergencies (such as shock, raised intracranial pressure, status epilepticus), oxygen therapy, invasive and non-invasive monitoring, ventilator therapy etc.) Hands-on experience will be provided at the work-stations.
b) Neonatal Care

A state-of-the-art workshop at an institute which provides modern neonatal care and is recognised for DM (Neonatology) course and boasts of the first Human Milk Bank in the entire country i.e. at the LTM Medical College and LTMG Hospital, Sion. It will be organised by Dr. A.R. Fernandez and Dr. Jayshree Mondkar of the Department of Neonatology of the Institute.

c) PALS Providers' Course
Venue : Bombay Hospital
Registration Fees : Rs.800/- (Add Rs.25/- for outstation cheques)

ACTIVITIES PLANNED

MBIAP TODAY
The next issue of our newsletter "MBIAP TODAY" is under preparation. Kindly send your contributions (articles, suggestions, criticisms etc.) to Dr. Nitin Shah, Editor MBIAP.

COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAMMES
a) Formaiton of Mother Support Groups in different areas of Mumbai.
b) Training of Anganwadi Workers (AWW) in ICDS blocks of Chembur, Ghatkopar and Worli. Training courses for Trainers will be organised by MBIAP. The trainers will, in turn, train the AWWs in their areas.
c) One to one programme: A pediatrician will be expected to collaborate with an obstetric Hospital and impart perinatal health education (inclusive of lactation management) to pregnant women, accompanying relatives and paramedics attending the hospital.
d) School Health check up
Those interested in participating in these programmes are requested to contact Dr. Nitin Shah, General Secretary MBIAP on or before 15th Aug.1997. The details of programmes are being finalised.
